Coroner identifies worker killed in Walker County crane accident

One person died in a crane accident on a Highway 269 bridge construction site in Walker County, Ala., Monday, June 13, 2016. (abc3340.com)



The Walker County coroner has identified the construction worker killed in a crane accident Monday morning as 62-year-old Fred Crayton of Birmingham.

Authorities say Crayton died shortly after 8 a.m. when a crane collapsed on top of him.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Authorities are on the scene of a fatal crane accident in Walker County near Gorgas Steam Plant.


Walker County sheriff's deputies responded to report of an accident on a construction site in the 1300 block of Highway 269 in Parrish around 8:15 a.m. Upon arriving, deputies discovered an overturned crane and one injured victim. The coroner's office was called the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Walker County's Deputy Coroner told ABC 33/40, " The crane operator jumped out when the crane started shifting, and the crane landed on top of him.
