An 85-year-old Deerfield woman dies, 3 others injured after head-on collision near Libertyville, IL

An 85-year-old Deerfield woman died after the mini-van she was driving crashed with another vehicle late Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Illinois Highway 137 and U.S. Highway 45 near Libertyville, police said.

According to a news release from the Lake County sheriff's office, about 5 p.m., a 2014 Cadillac CTS, driven by a 22-year-old Round Lake Beach man, was traveling west on Illinois 137 approaching the U.S. 45 off-ramp. A 2003 Chrysler Town and Country mini-van, driven by the Deerfield woman, made a left turn onto eastbound Illinois 137 from the off-ramp and collide with the Cadillac, police said.

The Deerfield woman was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead, police said. Her identity has not been released, pending notification of relatives. A passenger in her vehicle, a 63-year-old Deerfield man, was transported to Condell with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Cadillac and a 22-month-old passenger in the Cadillac were transported to the emergency room of Northwestern Medicine Grayslake with non-life threatening injuries.
