LONG BRANCH - A construction worker was hospitalized after he was shocked and fell 25 feet Wednesday morning when his scaffold apparently struck a power line, according to a police statement.

The 23-year-old Keansburg man, whom police did not identify, was operating a scaffold about 25 feet off the ground around 9:15 a.m. near the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Ocean Terrace when police said he may have crashed into a high-voltage power line. The man was shocked and thrown from his protective bucket, police said.

When first responders arrived, the man was conscious, but dazed and showed "visible signs of serious injuries as a result of the incident."

David Russek, a member of the Long Branch Fire Department who lived in the area, responded immediately and stabilized the victim until the ambulance arrived, police said.

He was taken by helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and later to Barnabas Burn Center in Livingston.

His condition is unknown at this point, police said.
