MOSINEE, WI - A 51-year-old man has died following an accident involving an overhead crane at a Crystal Finishing Systems plant in Mosinee, according to the police chief.

The accident happened shortly before noon Tuesday, said Mosinee Police Chief Kenneth Muelling. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Muelling said.

A news release from the city said the man was an employee of Crystal Finishing Systems and that his name was being withheld until family can be notified.

In a statement released late Tuesday afternoon, Crystal Finishing President Mark Matthiae said the company is "working closely with investigators to fully understand the cause of this unfortunate accident."

"We are also working closely with local law enforcement and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration," the statement said.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and co-workers," Matthiae said. “We will do everything we can to support our employees, including bringing in outside resources to address any team member concerns.”

Crystal Finishing Systems is an aluminum fabricating and coating business with locations in Mosinee, Schofield and River Falls.
