SALT LAKE CITY — Two men were critically injured after a construction accident Thursday afternoon.

Emergency response crews responded to a call of the accident shortly after 12:30 p.m. at a site of an apartment complex under construction near 255 N. 400 West, Salt Lake Fire Capt. Mark Bednarik said.

Bednarik said two men were on a scissor lift in the park garage section on the sixth floor of the construction site when something apparently went wrong.

“We’re not sure if it fell over or if it malfunctioned, but two workers were on that scissor lift and were injured in that process,” Bednarik said.

Bednarik said about 30 emergency responders helped carry the two men down six flights of stairs on the construction site.

The men suffered “traumatic injuries” and were taken by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition, Bednarik said.

Investigators are still investigating the cause of the accident, Bednarik added, noting Salt Lake police joined the preliminary investigation for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
