A 14-year-old Barnes, Wis., girl reported missing Tuesday night was found dead early Wednesday, the apparent victim of an all-terrain vehicle crash.

The Bayfield County Sheriff's Office reported that the girl, whose name was not released Wednesday pending notification of family, was reported missing at about 10 p.m. Tuesday; she left her home earlier in the day on an ATV and had not been seen by her family since.

Authorities conducted a search of the area, and Bayfield County sheriff's deputies found the girl, deceased, at about 4 a.m. Wednesday on an unmarked logging road about two miles from her home.

"It was apparent that she had died of injuries consistent with an ATV accident rollover," the sheriff's office reported. "She was wearing a helmet and it appears she lost control of her ATV on a curve that had standing water from previous rains."

The Bayfield County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin State Department of Natural Resources and the Bayfield County Coroner are investigating the incident.

The Bayfield and Douglas county sheriff's offices, Sawyer County Search and Rescue, Barnes Fire Department and Barnes EMS took part in the search.

Barnes is located in Bayfield County about 40 miles southeast of Superior.
