Workplace accident kills Core Molding Technologies employee

Columbus police have identified a worker who died Monday in what they said was an accident at a company on the city's Far West Side.

Police were called shortly after 5 a.m. to Core Molding Technologies, 800 Manor Park Drive, on a report that an employee had been injured by a hydraulic press.

According to police, Timothy Underwood, 60, suffered a "catastrophic injury to his head." He was declared dead at 5:17 a.m. Underwood's address wasn't released.

The police investigation is ongoing, and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration also is investigating.

Core Molding Technologies manufactures primarily truck parts such as hoods and fenders.

Core Molding Technologies is "deeply saddened" by what happened, a company statement said. "Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and friends of the deceased, and our thoughts and prayers are with them."
