1 dead, 3 injured in wrong-way, head-on crash on Henry Hudson Parkway

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- A driver wanted for striking several parked vehicles crashed head-on into another vehicle in a wrong-way crash on the Henry Hudson Parkway late Tuesday, killing one and injuring three others.

Authorities say the driver of the red Dodge Caravan was observed striking several parked vehicles on Eighth Avenue and West 17th Street in Chelsea earlier in the day, and officers caught up with the vehicle on West 59th Street just before 11:45 p.m.

The driver reportedly entered the Henry Hudson Parkway in the wrong direction, traveling northbound in the southbound lanes before collided with another car near the 79th Street Boat Basin.

Four people were in that car at the time of the crash. A woman rushed to St. Luke's Hospital in critical condition later died, while a 53-year-old man was listed in stable condition. The other two occupants suffered only minor injuries.

Two men in the suspct vehicle were taken into custody. The 24-year-old driver was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, while a 24-year-old passenger was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital Cornell. Both sustained non life-threatening injuries, and charges are pending.

The victim's identity has not been revealed.
