A North Carolina Department of Transportation worker was struck by an SUV in a construction zone along Highway 70 in Johnston County Tuesday.

It happened just before noon at the Neuse River work zone between Oak Street and Bear Farm Road.

Officials said a red SUV hit the worker on the shoulder of the westbound lanes. The victim was taken to Wakemed in Raleigh by Selma EMS in unknown condition.
