UPPER EAST SIDE, NYC —

A worker was killed after falling 13 floors from scaffolding at East 76th Street and First Avenue Tuesday, according to officials.

The 30-year-old man fell from a 14th floor scaffold to a sidewalk shed at 363 E. 76th St. at about 3:58 p.m., according to an Office of Emergency Management spokeswoman and Department of Buildings website.

"He looked bad," said Ricardo Guarneros, 42, who works next door to the building. "He was bleeding from the head when they put him in the ambulance."

He was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital a little after 4:30 p.m., where he was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.

It was not immediately clear if the worker was wearing a safety harness at the time of the accident.

A project manager at the scene, who declined to give his name, said work was being stopped while officials investigated.
