Police said six people were in the car when the driver, 58-year-old Morris Faitelewicz, attempted to move into the passing lane, but there was already a car next to his. Faitelewicz's daughter, Sheryl Faitelewicz, 27, and two sons, Jason Faitelewicz, 29, and Alan Faitelewicz, 23, survived the crash and are in stable condition.

All were members of the Orthodox Jewish community on the Lower East Side.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
