Five people were on board the chopper when it went down around 9:45 a.m. ET on Wednesday shortly after taking off from the airport in Sept-Îles, about 30 kilometres from the crash site in the province's North Shore region.

In a release issued Wednesday afternoon, the Transportation Safety Board said it would be deploying a team of investigators to the site of "a fatal accident involving a Bell 206 helicopter" to collect information and try to determine what happened.

Accessing the crash site was difficult due to the rugged, wooded terrain, according to police. A helicopter was used to transport the three injured to hospital.

Bilodeau said the two others aboard were pronounced dead at the scene.

Sept-Îles is about 650 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.
