A cruise ship worker has been accused of sexually assaulting a boy on the Carnival Valor.

Yovany Suazo-Batiz, a Honduran citizen, was arrested on Saturday afternoon after the vessel docked in Port Canaveral in the U.S.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office alleges that Suazo-Batiz, 46, approached the boy in the ship’s sauna. The boy tried to escape. However, the man is alleged to have followed him into the shower where he sexually assault him.

The boy immediately sought help from his father, who, along with other passengers, detained the man until onboard security officers arrived at the scene.

Suazo-Batiz appeared before a judge on Sunday, and was set a bond of $135,000. The prosecution had asked the judge to hold the defendant in custody in case he fled.

Carnival Cruise Lines issued a statement saying it immediately notified the FBI and Brevard County Sheriff’s Office when it learned of the incident. “We extend our appreciation to both federal and local law enforcement agencies for their support and are continuing to provide Care Team assistance to the alleged victim.”
