A man was killed in an industrial accident Thursday night on Jacksonville's Westside after a large piece of equipment apparently fell on him, police said.

Rescue workers responded to a call for help about 7 p.m. after a worker at Capps Land Management at 8719 West Beaver Street discovered another worker under a back hoe or end loader, according to Sgt. Craig Waldrup of the Sheriff’s Office.

Waldrup said the employee, who has not been identified, was working on the equipment by himself on the outside when it fell on top of him, causing him to die from his injuries. He was pronounced dead on the scene by rescuers.

No one witnessed the accident, Waldrup said, but no foul play is suspected. Information on the exact type of equipment and its weight was not available at the time of the media briefing.

Capps Land Management is in the land clearing business, Waldrup said, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigators are on the way to the site.
