The "MSC Ajaccio" suffered problems with an oil pump and was disabled off the Spanish coast, about 18 miles from Cape Touriñán, after having sailed from Las Palmas on Aug 24, 2015.

The ship with a crew of 28 on board was destined to Rotterdam and was about 18 miles out Touriñán.

The crew tried to repair the damage without success and thus had to call for help on Aug 27 at 4.15 a.m.

The Spanish salvage vessel "Sebastian De Ocampo" (IMO: 9329021) was mobilized from Muros and headed to the ship.

Also two helicopters were in pre-alert, but it was not necessary to mobilize them. After Salvamento Maritimo was tasked to assist in the afternoon of Aug 27, the Spanish salvage tug "Don Inda" (IMO: 9338010) was able to establish a towing connectionat 1.20 p.m. in spite of bad sea conditions and strong winds when the ship was only four miles off Touriñán.

The tug took the ship in tow towards A Coruña. On Aug 28 also the tugs "Ibaizabal Nueve" (IMO: 9546667) and „Sertosa Veintiocho“ (IMO: 9133953) joined the convoy to get the boxship safe into port.
