ROYAL CITY, Wash.

An ammonia leak caused the Grant County Sheriff's Office to order people living near the Royal Ridge Fruits facility to shelter in place.

Sheriff's spokesman Kyle Foreman says they issued the order at about 9:50 a.m. Monday.

People within a 1-mile radius of the facility south of Royal City were told to bring family and pets inside, close windows, turn off fans and stay in an interior room.

Foreman says the fire department responded to an incident at Royal Ridge Fruits early Monday and discovered that some ammonia had leaked. It's used as a refrigerant for storing fruit and vegetables.

He says most of the ammonia has dissipated but they want people to stay inside until officials make sure there isn't another leak.

No one was injured in the incident.
