  MISSOULA, Mont. -

We learned Saturday night that a Montana Department of Transportation employee was killed Thursday in a road side accident in Missoula County.

This accident was reported around 4 p.m. near Clearwater Junction on the shoulder of Highway 200 .

Sheriff's investigators identified the victim as 45-year-old Jason Rolls, a section supervisor who recently moved to the area from Helena.

Rolls and two other state employees were using a piece of equipment to mix sand and salt, investigators said, but but the rig wasn't properly secured, and Rolls was too close to the wheels when it moved unexpectedly.

The sheriff's department has ruled this death as accidental.

Now OSHA and state officials will each begin their own investigations.
