Man, 32, killed in fiery crash onto a tree in Deerfield Beach, Florida

Man dies in single-car crash in Deerfield Beach little more than 24 hours before his birthday.

It was supposed to have been a festive birthday weekend for David Alejandro Garcia Ramirez, a father of two about to turn 33 Sunday.

But Friday night, his fiancee, Maria Estrada, 27, of Deerfield Beach, was watching the news when she saw reports on the Deerfield Beach crash that killed Ramirez. Later, a Broward Sheriff's deputy knocked on her door, telling her Ramirez was gone.

"He was coming back home to his family," Estrada said. "We were going to go out [Sunday] and I was going to cook for him."

The couple had planned to get married on Nov. 26, 2016, Estrada said.

Ramirez died when his 2015 Hyundai Sonata left the road along the 100 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard, hit a curb and crashed into a tree around 8:20 p.m., the sheriff's office said. No other vehicles were involved. The impact caused the car's engine to catch fire.

Agency spokeswoman Dani Moschella said people who had either heard or seen the crash ran from a nearby store to help. They reached into the burning car and pulled out Ramirez just before the car became engulfed in flames, the sheriff's office said.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue tried to treat Ramirez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, but were unable to save him, Moschella said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"He was an awesome person with a big heart," Estrada said. "He would help anybody for nothing. He was just awesome."
