HAWTHORNE, Fla. —

A man was apparently electrocuted Monday after the car he owned struck a power pole in Hawthorne. A passenger, Hailey Roberts, 23, was seriously injured after the pole snapped in the collision and trapped her inside the vehicle, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

According to a media release, Robert Beall, 25, was traveling east on County Road 20A near Crocus Lane, when for unknowns reason, his 2010 Toyota Scion left the road and collided with a Florida Power & Light power pole.

The vehicle flipped on its driver's side, which trapped Roberts in the vehicle, according to FHP.

Beall was able to get out of the car but was dead on scene when paramedics arrived, according to authorities, with "injuries ... consistent with electrocution."

Roberts was taken to UF Health of Gainesville with serious injuries, according to the release.
