MILLARD COUNTY , UTAH

A teenage girl was killed after being ejected from a vehicle and hit by another car, Utah Highway Patrol reported Sunday.

Around 2:35 a.m., three family members were traveling north on I-15 in Millard County a few miles before the Kanosh Interchange when the driver, Monica Rodriguez, 38, of West Jordan, overcorrected after driving straight on a portion of the road that curved, UHP reported.

The Toyota 4-Runner rolled several times, landing in the roadway, according to UHP. Stephanie Villegas, 16, had removed her seat belt to lie across the back seat and was thrown from the SUV onto the center line of the interstate.

A second northbound vehicle slowed as it encountered debris from the crash, but the driver did not see the girl lying in the roadway and struck her, UHP said.

Other travelers offered aid to the girl but she died on the scene of the crash.

The girl's mother, Rodriguez, and her father, Enrique Villegas, 41, were transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life threatening. UHP suspects drowsy driving may have contributed to the crash.
