The Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP) is continuing to investigate a two vehicle crash that occurred early Thursday evening that sent a 16-year-old female to a West Virginia hospital via MedFlight.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:34 p.m. on State Route 93 at the intersection of Pyro and Clay Banner Roads.

At that time, a four wheeler being driven by 16-year-old McKenzie Shanks of Oak Hill was traveling westbound off Pyro Road and failed to stop at State Route 93. Shanks entered the roadway and was struck by a Buick LaSabre traveling southbound.

The Buick was being driven by Edithann M. Odum, 37, of Oak Hill. There were no passengers in Odum’s vehicle and she was not injured.

Shanks had to be MedFlighted to Cabell-Huntington Hospital in West Virginia for her injuries. Initial reports stated Shanks had a broken leg, but it isn’t clear as to other injuries she may have sustained.

Shanks was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
