DRIVER LOSES CONTROL AND SMASHES ONTO A UTILITY POLE, KNOCKS DOWN ELECTRIC WIRE, CATCHES FIRE IN PENNSYLVANIA

Driver loses control, crashes into utility pole in Montco

Police say a driver lost control and crashed into a utility pole in Upper Moreland Township, Pennsylvania.

Police say a driver lost control and crashed into a utility pole in Upper Moreland Township, Pennsylvania.

The accident happened 2:30 a.m. Friday at Wellington Apartments off Horsham Road.

The driver became trapped after hitting the utility pole. The impact of the crash knocked down live wires onto the car which caught fire.

Rescue and PECO crews were called to the scene.

Responders told the driver not to get out of the car because of the dangerous situation.

PECO immediately shut the power off so rescue crews could free the driver. It took them about an hour.

The victim was rushed to Abington Hospital with various injuries.

Police are trying to determine why the driver lost control. Typical causes include alchohol or drug impairment, speeding, medical condition.
