Driver distracted by dog inside his cab causes beer truck crash in Hernando County, Florida

Hernando County, Florida --

Troopers say the cause of backups on I-75 SB at SR-50 Tuesday morning due to an overturned beer truck all started because of a small dog.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the driver of a Budweiser tractor trailer, 23-year-old Malcolm Wilcox, got distracted by a small dog inside his cab and lost control causing him to travel onto the outside shoulder. When he over-corrected, the semi traveled across the roadway and collided with the center median guardrail and overturned.

As a result, most of his load of beer cans spilled onto the roadway, closing the inside lane for more than three hours.

No one was injured, including the dog.
