A Precinct 7 deputy constable is recovering at the hospital after crashing his squad car on the way to an emergency call.

Investigators say around midnight, the deputy was headed north on Cullen near the 610 South Loop when a pedestrian with a shopping cart stepped into the street.

The deputy swerved to miss the pedestrian, rolled the vehicle over and hit a couple of trees.

A citizen who witnesses the crash ran to aid the deputy, pulling him out of the mangled car. Emergency crews then rushed the deputy to Memorial Hermann Hospital in unknown condition.
