Stevenson, Alabama

Stevenson police and the county coroner confirm that two people died in a car crash Friday morning.

Jackson County Coroner John David Jordan said they were in a Ford Focus on U.S. 72. They turned in toward a side street near Family Dollar but turned in front of an oncoming 18-wheeler, he said.

The truck hit them in their side. Jordan said bystanders pulled them out before the car caught fire.

Both people in the Focus were killed. Jordan identified them as Kenneth Kelly, 51, and Robert Clark, 21. Both were from the Stevenson area.

The 18-wheeler's driver wasn't hurt.
