A Bismarck man died Saturday when the ATV he was a passenger on crashed on a gravel road near Martin, in Sheridan County.

The Highway Patrol reports 32-year-old Cole Weckerly was thrown from the ATV when the driver lost control while purposely fish-tailing the vehicle.

Fishtailing is an illegal maneuver where the driver of a 4WD vehicle causes the rear tires to swing back and forth leaving fish tail-shaped tracks, often to create a dust cloud for anyone who might be following.

The Patrol reports 36-year-old Damon Tessmann of Goodrich told them he was accelerating and lost control of the ATV.

Tessmann was taken to the Harvey Hospital but no condition report is available.
