MADISON, Wis.----

A chemical spill early Friday morning in De Forest sent one person to the hospital, according to a release from the City of Madison Fire Department.

The Madison Fire Department said around 1:30 a.m. an employee at Waltco Package Delivery Service in De Forest call 911 saying his co-worker was exposed to some sort of gas.

Authorities say The De Forest Fire Department called the Hazardous Incident Team (HIT) at 2:15 a.m. to assist after it was determined that muriatic acid was leaking from the back of a delivery truck behind the warehouse.

They estimate about 3 gallons of liquid leaked onto the floor of the truck and the ground outside.

The Hazmat team removed the damaged containers from the truck.
De Forest Fire fighters and the MFD HIT flushed the back of the truck and affected area outside with water until the scene was clear of health and safety hazards.

They say one person was transported to UW Hospital for evaluation but was released right away.

The scene was cleared at 4:45 a.m. Friday.

Authorities say it's unknown how the spill occurred.
