MIAMI, FLORIDA (WSVN) --

Crews have capped a major gas leak in Miami that forced the closure of a major intersection and called for residents to evacuate the area.

The leak was reported Monday morning when gas began spewing from a broken pipe at Southwest 17th Avenue and Fourth Street. Hazmat crews responded and evacuated the surrounding area.

According to officials, a construction crew working in the area stuck a gas line along Southwest Fourth Street.

The Teco gas company responded to the scene to cap the leak.
