Authorities in western New York are investigating the cause of an explosion in a garage that left a man with serious injuries.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office says the blast occurred around 3:30 a.m. Monday in a detached garage at a home in the town of Wheatfield, 10 miles north of Buffalo.
Deputies say a woman living at the home called 911 to report the explosion.
When police arrived, they found a 44-year-old man with a "catastrophic" injury to his foot. The man was airlifted to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.
The Criminal Division of the sheriff's office is investigating.
