Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Honolulu rescued three of six people after their outrigger canoe capsized in Kalihi Channel about 4:40 p.m.Tuesday.

A good Samaritan notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Honolulu that an outrigger canoe had capsized sending its six paddlers into the water.

A Response Boat – Medium boat crew from Station Honolulu was launched and arrived on scene about 5 p.m.  and immediately recovered three people.

A second outrigger canoe arrived on scene and recovered the remaining three people.

The Station Honolulu boat crew took the outrigger and the outrigger’s ama in tow to the Sand Island Boat Ramp.

No injuries were reported and none of the persons in the water were wearing life jackets.

The Coast Guard encourages boaters to wear life jackets at all times when on the water. Life jackets save lives when you wear them.
