Civilian dies in fiery crash at Fort Bragg

A civilian male died in a fiery crash at Fort Bragg over the weekend, according to a base press release.

The single-vehicle wreck occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday when the motorist veered off Zabitosky Road into the woods. The eastbound vehicle erupted into flames near the Reilly Road intersection, and the victim could not get out before being killed by the fire, the release said.

The identity of the victim has been withheld pending a positive identification, which Fort Bragg spokesman Ben Abel said had not been completed because of the extensive nature of the fire, as well as notification of next of kin.

The case is being investigated by Fort Brag military police as well as Criminal Investigation Command.
