PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) —

A small plane crashed on the beach just north of Holland State Park on Sunday afternoon.

The plane landed in front of the Spyglass Condominiums off Sea Watch Drive in Park Township.

A witness told 24 Hour News 8 that the plane was seen flying low when suddenly its engine seemed to stop and the plane fell to the ground.

Witnesses said they could see a man who they thought was the pilot walking away from the downed plane.

Ottawa County Undersheriff Steve Kempker confirmed to 24 Hour News 8 that the pilot was not hurt.

The cause of the plane crash is not yet known.

The aircraft is a fixed-wing single-engine plane manufactured in 1966 by Alon, according to Federal Aviation Administration registry records matching the tail number on the plane. It was last certified in June 2010. The records show it is registered to a Holland man.
