COLUMBUS, OHIO (AP) —

A central Ohio highway remains closed as authorities inspect damage to an interstate bridge after an overturned tanker truck caught fire.
Ohio Department of Transportation spokesman Matt Bruning says Interstate 70 remained closed at Interstate 270 on the west side of Columbus as inspectors evaluated damage Wednesday.

He says there appears to be damage to the concrete and reinforcing bars of the I-70 eastbound bridge above I-270.

The crash occurred around 6 a.m. Wednesday in the southbound lane of I-270, with flames extending above onto I-70.

Both highways were initially closed in both directions as crews contained the flames amid the morning commute.

Police say the driver, who was able to escape without serious injury, told authorities the tanker contained about 8,000 gallons of ethanol.
