80-year old man killed when his ATV was struck by BNSF train near Fromberg, Montana

FROMBERG, MONTANA
An 80-year-old Carbon County man died after the ATV he was driving was struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train.

The crash was reported Thursday at 7:18 a.m. near mile marker 34 on U.S. Highway 310 North.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Chan Barry said the man was struck while he was in his private driveway, which crosses marked train tracks.

Barry said the man must not have seen the approaching train. He was thrown about 50 feet on impact.

Crew members on the train witnessed the collision and called 911.

Barry estimated the train was not traveling at a fast speed because it came to a stop shortly after the man was struck.

The patrol will coordinate with the railroad to complete the investigation.

The man's name has not been released.
