JULY 4, 2015

YONKERS, NY

A serious crash closed the southbound Thruway in the area of Central Park Avenue for about two hours on Friday.

State police said all lanes had reopened by 7:30 p.m., more than two hours after all southbound lanes were closed because of a crash involving a tractor-trailer and passenger vehicle, which ended up on its roof under the truck. The accident occurred around 4:40 p.m.

Police said four people were taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx for minor injuries.

A state highway advisory says the stretch of road affected is between Exits 3 and 2, Mile Square Road and Yonkers Avenue. Central Park Avenue was also closed, with traffic being diverted at Mile Square Road.

"Motorists should plan for extended delays," the state said. "Motorists may wish to seek alternate routes."

Delays extend as far back as exit 6. Northbound traffic is also affected.
