1 teen killed, another seriously injured after truck and ATV collision in Hickory Grove, SC

HICKORY GROVE, SC — 

One person was killed and another air lifted after a crash involving an ATV and a pickup truck Saturday afternoon, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The crash involving a Yamaha four-wheeler and a Dodge pickup happened at about 5:30 p.m. on Goose Hollow Road in Hickory Grove, said Cpl. Bill Rhy, a Highway Patrol spokesman.

The driver of the four-wheeler, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the ATV and died at the scene, Highway Patrol officials said.

The York County Coroner identified the victim as Dalton Wright, 17, of Hickory Grove. Autopsy and toxicology reports are pending.

Channel 9 spoke to Wright's father Sunday afternoon.

"You never know what happens on the roads. It's just one of them unfortunate accidents that you never want happen to your kids or anyone," Jasper David Wright said.

Gregory Thompson, 17, a passenger on the back of the ATV, was not wearing a helmet and was also ejected from the four-wheeler. He was later air lifted to the hospital.

The driver of the pickup, a 16-year-old girl, and her passenger, 49, were both wearing seat belts and were not injured, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
