GRANITE FALLS, NC (WBTV) -
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is expected to investigate the Monday afternoon death of a man at Jordan-Holman Lumber Company in Granite Falls. Police Chief Ritch Bolick says it "was a tragic accident involving a forklift."

Bolick says the man, later identified as 55-year-old Steven George Dolgas, was run over by the forklift, which apparently was in reverse. Few details are being released, says the chief, because few details are known yet.

What they do know is that the forklift was not carrying a load at the time of the accident. There were no witnesses to what happened and Dolgas was believed to be driving the forklift.

The chief said surveillance cameras at the lumber yard may have caught the accident, and that authorities will be looking at that.

As soon as Dolgas was found, 911 was called and paramedics rushed to the scene, but it was too late.

"There was nothing that could be done to save him," said Bolick.

The lumber yard is on the north side of Granite Falls along Highway 321-A. Employees could be seen gathering near the front gate in the late afternoon, also trying to gather information about what happened.

The chief said Dolgas had been associated with the company for a long time.

"I would just ask for prayers for his family and for the people here," said Bolick.
