WINTER GARDEN, FLORIDA

Authorities have not yet released the name of a man who was crushed to death inside a machine at a Winter Garden recycling plant Monday.

Rescue crews were called to the Robert Wallick Associates, Inc. recycling company just before 9 a.m. after reports of an accident.

Winter Garden police Lt. Scott Allen said the man was sorting cardboard with a baling machine when he was pulled into the machine and was crushed.

Authorities said the victim's body was recovered from inside one of the giant cardboard bales.

"Basically you have an employee that's responsible for several different areas of this machine. Those responsible for loading, clearing, machine functioning.

One of the employees basically went unseen for a little bit; that's when they started looking into it and realized that the door to the machine was open," said Allen.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.

Police said they are investigating the death as an accident.

The man's name has not yet been released.
