Truck Driver Killed After Collides with Tree in Rochester, WA. Diesel and Oil Spill is Being Cleaned Up

A man driving a log truck was killed after striking a tree on U.S. Highway 12 in Rochester Friday.

West Thurston Fire Authority Chief Robert Scott said first responders pronounced the man dead on arrival at about 4 p.m. 

The driver, whose identity was not available by presstime, was pinned inside the truck, which was totaled, Scott said.

The road was closed for hours near the intersection of Denmark Street. At 8:30 p.m. Friday, Scott said it was still closed. 

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident. 

The Washington State Department of Ecology arrived to clean up diesel and oil. 

The truck was not hauling logs at the time of the wreck.
