PILOT SERIOUSLY INJURED IN A QUICKSILVER MXS ULTRALIGHT PLANE CRASH IN CRAWFORD COUNTY, IOWA

A pilot from Crawford County, Iowa was seriously injured Wednesday night in an ultralight plane crash.

Authorities say it appears the aircraft got caught in a downdraft and plummeted to the ground.The crash happened outside of Ute on J Avenue around seven o'clock.

Investigators with the Crawford County Sheriff's Department estimate 27-year-old Brian Borkowski, from Irwin, fell 50-to-60 feet into a cornfield.

He went to the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison with a broken ankle, concussion, rib and back pain.

He was then flown by medical helicopter to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
He condition wasn't known on Wednesday night.

Borkowski was the only person on board.

Doppler radar showed thunderstorms were moving through the area around the time of the crash.

Narrative:
The aircraft impacted farm field terrain in Crawford County northeast of Ute, Iowa. The airplane sustained substantial damage and the sole pilot onboard received serious injuries.
