Pedestrian struck, killed Downtown by Sacramento light-rail train

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) —Police are investigating a deadly light-rail train crash involving a pedestrian in downtown Sacramento.

The crash took place at 9:37 a.m. Friday under the 12th Street train bridge near the Alkali Flat station.

The light-rail train was going outbound to Watt Avenue at Interstate 80 when the operator saw what appeared to be a man lying on the tracks, according to Regional Transit police.

The train was unable to stop in time and hit the man.

The Sacramento County Coroner has been called to the scene.

A witness also told KCRA's Brian Hickey that they saw a person on the tracks before the crash.

Regional Transit has set up a bridge between Alkali Flat and Arden/Del Paso because of the incident.
