South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating following a deadly accident in Clarendon County.

Troopers say on Friday, June 26 at 3:17pm Zachary Swiger, 21, was driving on Alderman Camp Road when the 2003 Toyota Echo he was driving went off the right side of the road.

We're told Swiger then over-corrected, went off the left side of the road, and struck an embankment.  After striking the embankment, officials say Swiger drove back on the right side of the road, where the vehicle overturned.

The passenger, later identified as James Cody Sanders, 18, of Alcolu, sustained fatal injuries in the accident.

Swiger was taken to Clarendon Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

We've learned Swiger is charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a collision.
