A fire broke out in the engine room of an offshore support vessel, off the coast of Mumbai on Sunday, May 31, Indian media have reported.

According to the Indian Express, there were thirty three crew members on board the ONGC-contracted Vestfonn vessel at the time of the fire outbreak.

Nobody was injured, and the Indian Coast Guard evacuated 28 people. Five were left on board to monitor the situation.

“By about 7.30 pm, the fire on board was controlled and the ship is being towed by another ONGC ship Malviya 24. The situation is being monitored,” Coast Guard spokesperson said in a statement, Indian Express reports.

The Vestfonn was working at the Mumbai High offshore field, some 200 km off Mumbai, at the time of the incident.
