NEW PALTZ, NEW YORK

Police arrested a Walden man on charges of leaving the scene of a serious personal injury auto accident, assault and insurance fraud, following an incident in the Village of New Paltz.

On April 25 at 3:25 a.m., David Arcuri, 28, is alleged to have struck a pedestrian who was walking on the shoulder of Route 208, and then fled the scene.  The pedestrian was taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie for treatment of serious, but not life threatening injuries.

Detectives investigated, pursing several leads and contacting area body shops. On April 30, police received a tip and located Arcuri’s vehicle at an area body shop where evidence was seized that eventually linked it to the hit and run accident.

Arcuri surrendered to New Paltz Police accompanied by his lawyer. He was charged with insurance fraud for claiming to have struck a deer on April 25.  He was released on his own recognizance.

New Paltz Police were assisted by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and State Police Forensic Identification Center in Albany.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call New Paltz Police at 845-255-1323.
