DALLAS, TEXAS

DART says one of its bus operators has died after being struck by a bus at its Northwest Bus Operations Facility.

Mark Ball with DART says the incident happened at about 5 a.m. Monday as the victim was preparing for routes at the facility on Webb Chapel Ext.

Another driver was pulling out when he hit the victim, who was walking through the facility. The bus was empty at the time.

The victim was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital where he died about 30 minutes later. Morgan Lyons with DART says he had been with the company since November. It isn't clear whether he was wearing a reflective vest when he was hit.

The 55-year--old driver of the bus will be on leave pending a DART police investigation, Ball said. He has worked at DART for 12 years.

Counseling will be available for employees who need it, Lyons said.
