Chemical spill of formaldehyde causes building evacuation on UConn campus in Storrs, CT

STORRS, CT (WFSB)

A building on the University of Connecticut campus was evacuated after a chemical spill on Thursday afternoon. 

UConn officials said 1 liter of formaldehyde spilled in the Bousfield Psychology building, which led to the evacuation just before 3 p.m. Authorities said it is a hazmat situation because it involves hazardous materials. 

There were no reported injuries. 

It is unclear how many people were in the building at the time of spill, but UConn officials said there was not many, 

UConn officials said people were allowed back into the building. However, the area where the spill occurred remains closed to the public.
