FRANKLIN COUNTY, MO (KTVI)

One man is dead after he tried to drive across a flooded roadway near Meramec State Park. Authorities say his car was swept away. The accident happened Tuesday night around 8:40p.m. on Hamilton Hollow Road, east of Sleepy Hollow Road.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says 60-year-old John Lyons, of Sullivan, was driving west on Hamilton Hollow Road when he tried to drive his 1992 Lexus SC400 across a flooded roadway. However, the force of the water swept the car off the road and it overturned.

Lyons was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness reportedly called 911 and said he saw the car go into the water at a low water crossing, then get carried away.

Lyons` body was found in his car. He was the only person in the vehicle.
