TRAPPED DRIVER BURNS TO DEATH AFTER FIERY CRASH IN MADISON, WISCONSIN

MADISON, WIS. (AP)

A driver trapped following an interstate crash in Madison died when the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

Police say the driver hit a bridge support pillar on I-90/94 Thursday night. 

Officials say two bystanders, including a Cottage Grove firefighter, tried to help the driver, but the vehicle became consumed by fire. One of the bystanders was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Madison, Wis. -- Fire officials say the person who saw the crash happen was a Cottage Grove firefighter.

A second person also tried to help out the driver. That person suffered smoke inhalation, and needed to be taken to the hospital.

Madison, Wis. -- Madison police say one person died in the fire.

Witnesses say the vehicle hit a bridge support pillar under the I-90/94 overpass.

 The witness tried to help the driver, but the vehicle burst into flames and engulfed the entire vehicle.

No one else was in the vehicle.

Traffic on Femrite Drive is closed in both directions.

Madison, Wis. -- Authorities are on the scene of a vehicle fire under the Interstate.

Dane County Dispatch confirms someone was pinned in the vehicle that caught fire on Femrite Drive. 

No other details are being released at this time.
