OMAHA, NEBRASKA

Speed and alcohol are considered factors in an Omaha crash that killed one person and sent another to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Saturday morning.

Police say the driver of a car heading eastbound on L Street lost control, went across several lanes of traffic, hit a fence and crashed into a parked cement truck at Ready Mix Concrete near South 36th Street just before 1 a.m.

The driver, 22-year-old Michael Harnett of Bellevue, was ejected from the car, which burst into flames. His passenger, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Harnett was taken to Nebraska Medicine with a serious head injury.

L Street was closed between 36th and 39th streets until 5:30 a.m.
