CANTERBURY, NH (AP)

A driver died after being burned during a fiery car crash in Canterbury.

Police say the man lost control of 2013 Toyota Scion Monday night. The car veered off the road and hit a large tree before traveling down an embankment and over a stone wall. It then burst into flames.

Residents attempted to rescue the driver from the fire, but were not successful. The passenger has been taken to Lakes Region General Hospital with minor injuries.

Police say excessive speed was likely a contributing factor. They are not releasing the identity of the driver until they notify relatives.
